Sunny Deol Returns in Border 2 with Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh; Teaser to Drop on August 15
Sunny Deol is back as Major Kuldip Singh in Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh, alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. Centered on the India–Pakistan rivalry, the film is slated for a Republic Day 2026 release.
The shoot has wrapped, and fans can expect a one-minute announcement teaser featuring Sunny Deol on August 15, 2025. The teaser will be released online, screened in cinemas over the Independence Day weekend, and attached to War 2 across major multiplex chains, thanks to a special deal between the producers and cinema networks.
“Anurag Singh has crafted a one-minute video with Sunny Deol that captures the essence of the India–Pakistan rivalry and the spirit of Border 2. The teaser will reaffirm the Republic Day 2026 release date,” a source told Pinkvilla.
Diljit Dosanjh’s Role and Controversy
Diljit Dosanjh portrays Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the Param Vir Chakra awardee and Air Force officer who lost his life defending the Srinagar Air Base during the 1971 war.
However, his casting sparked controversy due to his work with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3. The backlash intensified after Aamir criticised India’s military actions following the Pahalgam terror attack. While producers clarified the shoot occurred before tensions escalated, the criticism persisted, and Sardaar Ji 3 was released only overseas.
In the case of Border 2, no Pakistani actors are involved, and T-Series informed the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) that filming was nearly complete, with only two to three days of Diljit’s scenes pending. Ashoke Pandit from the Directors’ Association noted that replacing Diljit would cause delays and financial loss, though future projects with him could face restrictions if his role is replaceable.
